Chelmer Valley

Project Description: Chelmer Valley Nature Reserve, Chelmsford, is a 17.6-hectare nature reserve area known for its wildlife, green areas and picturesque views, but recently it has become known for being a very unsafe area, following a string of and sexual assaults and violence over the past few years. This has led to government action, and funding from the from the Home Office’s Safer Streets Fund to improve the security around the area and other parts of Chelmsford. Chelmsford City Council, who manage the area notorious for crime, have called on familiar security installers, Link CCTV Systems, to implement new security systems to decrease crime and improve the safety of the area.

This latest project involved the installation of sixteen new cameras situated across the Chelmer Valley Nature Reserve, all wirelessly transmitted back to the Chelmsford City Council control room to provide live monitoring. These units were located in prime positions along the pathway which is covered by trees and the surrounding foliage. As you can imagine whilst a wireless solution was the most economical way of introducing these new cameras, with the surrounding greenery, obtaining a direct line of sight between each camera took some strategic planning. Once all of the cameras were connected back to a single location, Link CCTV Systems introduced a large Infinite backhaul link to transmit the video signals back to the CCC control room.  Due to the nature reserve being located within a Valley, a ten metre CCTV column was deployed to ensure we receive a direct line of sight.

Fifteen additional cameras were cited across the city into vulnerable locations such as around the university, prison and within the surrounding parks and footpaths. Every solution is wireless and as part of the project, Link CCTV Systems introduced a total of sixteen WEC CCTV columns.
